Today we got on the road in good time and began the log drive to Durango where we had made reservations for the evening. My friend Rob called and he said it right, the drive is as much entertainment as you need. And what a beautiful drive it was. All in all an easy drive, and it had to be one of the most spectacular drives ever. We averaged just around 16 miles per gallon today which I thought was pretty good considering that we were traveling in the mountains, although there were just as many downhills as up hills. We only stopped a few times. Once for more DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) and once because the scenery was just so spectacular. I will let the photos tell the story today..just iPhone photos but they will do.
We arrived in Durango just about 5 pm and had a reservation at the Alpen Rose RV park, at the recommendation of some other Leisure Travel Van folks we met in Colorado Springs. What a nice campground, and I have wifi so I can post tonight. We got checked in and headed back to town for supper. We had passed a place called 'Serious Texas Bar-B-Q' and thought we would give it a try, even though we are quite a few miles from Texas. It was just what we needed, and delicious, too. Back at camp Ben and I got the Doodle all set up while Carol went off for a shower. It is now about nine PM and I am sitting under some cottonwood trees at the picnic table, just about ready to turn in for the evening. So, dear friends I apologize for not having any tall tales or high adventures today just a noice long drive through a beautiful state. Good night all.
