After a good night's sleep in the Redwoods we got an early start to drive the Avenue of the Giants. This road is a 32 mile stretch of the old Highway 101 which is a narrow and winding road with some of the most stunning scenery. The trees are amazing not only in their statistical size but just in their majesty and the environment they create.
Carol and I hiked many trails along the route some shorter some longer but each trail we hiked left us with the same impression that we are certainly someplace very special. Little Harper had to stay in the van or at least in the parking area as she was not allowed on the trails - in any California State Park or national park. Apparently the scent of a dog is a predator scent and disturbs the ecosystem.
This turned out to be a magical day here in the redwoods. By the time we drove out of the redwoods and were back on the 101 it well into the afternoon. Chatting and listening to our audiobooks we made good time and were able to make it all the way to Napa and our Leisure Travel Van Rally...but that story is for the next post.
And a small gallery of trees and such. . .
