I know some of you must still be wondering if we actually made it home or not. Sorry for the delay. We did make it home without incident and have been home watching the explosion of Covid-19 news. Rhode Island is basically shut down and we are sheltering in place as requested by our Governor.
The drive from Gettysburg home was fairly uneventful. We stopped in Norwalk early Sunday morning on the 8th to shop at Stew Leonards (our favorite grocery store). The first week home we were busy cleaning and getting everything back in order to live in the house. It was amazing just how much stuff we had packed away in the Doodle. We also accumulated a bunch of new stuff too. Toward the end of that week news of the corona virus started creeping more and more in to our days. Our Governor, Gina Raimondo, started holding daily press conferences, schools were shut down and kids began learning from home via computer. Restaurants closed. Then everything seemed to be disappearing from the shelves in the market.
Since then we have been getting out each day going for a hike. Rhode Island is a hikers paradise, as there are so many great trails. We have a several good trail within a couple of miles from the house which are convenient if we do not feel like going further afield. We started our daily hikes on March 15th and have only missed one day as of this writing. We have had 18 daily hikes out of the last 19 days. Our longest hike was yesterday, 5.2 miles and our shortest hike was an urban hike of only about a mile in a cold windy rain, walking here around the neighborhood.
Mostly we don't see anyone on the trails. From time to time we may pass someone and everyone seems very courteous as we pass, and keep their distance. These are strange times indeed when you have to distance yourself from the random person you may see in the forest. The daily hikes were Carol's idea when we stepped out on our first hike back on the 15th. She said let's see if we can do five hikes in five days...and now we are well into it.
I think we will continue the daily hikes for as long as this virus thing lasts. Although cold, wind and rain is predicted for tomorrow..ugh! So I hope this finds you well and safe. I will try to update from time to time with some really boring home projects or something. . . Below is a gallery of pics from the majority of our walks so far.
