As I have mentioned in a couple of past posts a lot of our days incorporate a hike. Yesterday was our 100th hike since we started counting during the Covid-19 pandemic. Mostly we are keeping busy with household projects and a bit of camping here and there but we always try to get a hike in.
Some days just aren't practical such as rain, heat, travel and just plain laziness, but those are rare. Last week we spent a couple of nights in Burlingame State Park here in Rhode Island. This is a beautiful State Park in Charlestown and our campsite was right on the shore of Watchaug Pond which has a great beach and nice refreshing water. Interestingly they had about half of the campsites closed so social distancing was made easy. We had a great time.
One day our daughter and our grandkids came to hang out, swim, eat and generally hang around the campfire. We had a great time, even close to home it is great to break the routine. Then again I still don't know what day it is, ever. I have been keeping busy with projects and doing some maintenance on the Doodle. I changed her generator oil and air filter, got a few parts ordered and just doing general maintenance. I made a new little table for the patio and am helping Ben refinish his skateboard. Carol has been re-doing her exercise room. we have wallpaper ordered and she has painted the ceiling and after the wallpaper comes we will paint the remaining walls as the paper is just going on one wall.
we have also become merchants - selling off some stuff on Craigslist. It is really amazing what you can collect over the years..and so far everything sold. We got rid of a treadmill, a wood stove, some tools, a hammock and a bike carrier. Feeling rich...ha.
The daily walks are a constant, 100 and counting, and they keep us sane. Well if not completely sane, enough so as you wouldn't notice if you don't look too closely. One of the things that should be mentioned is how many completely wonderful places we have within a short drive from our home. My older brother always comments about how we live in the East Coast megapolis and yet we have wilderness all around, not wild west wilderness but many many places where we can hike for miles and seldom see another person or hear any traffic.
Watch the video above, it commemorates out 100th walk
So my advice during the pandemic is to get out there and and walk. What ever the worry is, what ever might be troubling you, just walk it off. Take a hike, and I mean that in the nicest possible way. Here are a few more pictures from our hikes, all taken within a few miles from home.
