A few more days have slipped quietly by as we hang out in sunny Florida. This truly has been a relaxing time hanging out with friends and meeting new folks along the way. We have gone exploring, done some shopping and generally just goofed off for the past few days, doing nothing too special, but filling the days with quiet excitement.
We motored up A1A to a great breakfast spot called 'the Scrambled Egg' and had a wonderful breakfast, especially because it is dog friendly and Harper had her seat at the table too. I may have shared a bit of egg with Harper.
We then visited Ron Jon Surf Shop. This has got the be the epicenter of surfing commercialism, and likely a must see destination for anyone visiting this area of Florida. Whether you are visiting the theme parks in Orlando, the Kennedy Space Center, Daytona or just driving down the coast it seems as though there is an obligatory stop at Ron Jons' to pick up something bright and colorful. It was busy when we visited at 10 am on a Tuesday morning, parking lots were filled and overflowing, and the aisles were filled with people, none of whom looked as though they had ever been on a surfboard. Including us. I doubt Ron Jons rarely get serious surfers as customers. Harper and I hiked around as Carol wrapped up her purchases and we met a nice lady who trains service dogs. Harper always gets some attention.
Then on to Port Canaveral where saw the empty cruise ship docks. Covid has certainly taken its toll on that industry. From the shore you can see a few cruise ships anchored off shore a couple of miles. I am guessing that they are there with a skeleton crew just keeping them safe until the crowds come back. We also found a great place for a soda and snack on the waters edge on a causeway with the Kennedy Space Center's Vehicle Assembly Building visible to the north. Later we stopped for some ice cream and Harper had a bite or two as well. This is a nice pace, with so many new things to see and visit. Wednesday morning we had the Doodle washed and waxed by a man and wife couple. What a great job they did, the Doodle looks like she just came out of the show room.
While they were doing their thing, I was preparing photos for the memorial service we are attending on our way home. I am making a memorial video for a good friend and want all the photos to be just right. Those few hours on Wednesday morning flew by and soon the Doodle was done and I finished up in time for lunch. Things just have a way of working out. We made a quick run to the store and the engine light came on in the rental car.
So I called Enterprise and within an hour we had another car. The Hyundai we had was awesome, we now have a Toyota RAV4 - I think I liked the Hyundai a bit better. That afternoon Carol and Debbie went to the pool here at the RV park and Tom and I headed off to Harbor Freight as I wanted a couple of C-clamps so I can do a bit of wood carving at the table outside..need to clamp a piece of wood down. There was a young girl working at the Harbor Freight who just gushed over Harper. Harper is always a hit, and gets attention where ever she goes.
It was another lazy day of just hanging out. Today Carol and I went exploring the outer barrier beaches (A1A) from Melbourne down to Sebastian Beach and back up US1 to the campground. We found several places we would like to revisit, which I think we will do in a couple of days. We found a great state park where RV camping is right on the beach. . . we will looking into that for next year. On our way back up US1 we found a great little produce stand and got some fresh veggies and stuff.
We also stopped at a Dunkin Donuts (New Englanders all love their Dunkin Donuts) and another young lady started gushing over Harper...and asked 'Would she like a Pup Cup?' So Harper got a tiny little cup of whipped cream. What a nice little treat for Harper.
However, this afternoon, Debbie, Tom, Carol and I and Harper went to the Canova Dog Beach, and Harper was not the only cute dog... there were so many dogs. What a great idea, to have a dog beach. We sat and chatted all afternoon, watching puppies and the surf and ships offshore. Another fine day. We have friends coming for a visit tomorrow and our 51st anniversary is on Saturday.
