Today we moved to our northern most destination along the coast, the town of Tillamook. The home of cheese! We stopped a few places along the way but made steady progress. The day started in fog once again but the fog soon lifted, and the scenery was just wonderful.
As we neared Tillamook we spotted the Air Museum and had to stop. It is housed in a huge blimp hanger - you can see it for miles. As we arrived we pulled in right behind another Leisure Travel Van, like ours but newer. Instant friends! We chatted for a while, he and his kids were heading south, we swapped favorite camping spots along the way and such. The museum would not let Harper look at the planes so we just kind of sneaked into the Guppy that was sitting there, wide open...Harper liked it.
We wandered our way to out Harvest Host for the evening, the Blue Heron French Cheese Farm. They have a large field for us travelers to stay in. We had a wonderful supper and a wine tasting, and of course bought some cheeses as well. Harper got to meet lots of farm animals and had a huge field to romp in.
The mountains to the east were spectacular and the morning sunrise the next day was just the best to wake up to. There was just enough fog and sunlight mix to make it very memorable.
Breakfast was at the restaurant of the farm and Harper Carol and I all at outside at the table watching all the farm activity around us. Soon we traveled down the road to a park and hiked a bit, then off to Tillamook Cheese, the main cheese draw in town.
It is a huge cheese factory that produces cheese that is sold across the country, specializing in cheddars. They offer a factory tour which is great and the factory store has such great variety of cheeses that we just had to buy several, and t-shirts and stuff. . . you know how it goes.
From Tillamook we headed eastward toward Portland where we are to spend the next week or so at our son, Jason's house. The drive was easy and we will pick up the story in the next post...
